A good introduction

After reading Margaret Atwood's The Penelopiad I wanted to find more mythological stories. I remembered this ebook which had been lying on my Kindle for about two and a half years. Oh dear!

This short story collection is a fast read. It was written for older children. It gives a good flavour of the world of the ancient Norse gods. Female gods are beautiful, male ones are violent, frost-giants are threatening and Loke causes mischief at every turn. (He reminded me of Anansi who I first encountered in Neil Gaiman's Anansi Boys.)

I think this book is a good introduction to Norse mythology. The main gods and monsters are introduced as well as the different world strata they inhabit. I did not mind that this book is so old.
