Essential reading

I am grateful to have been able to download a free copy of this important essay collection from its publishers. It's powerful and essential reading which explains many aspects of the repression of Black history and culture over centuries. While most of the selected essays are by American writers, meaning that the book is strongly American focussed, I thought much of what was discussed was just as relevant here in the UK. I would say Our History Has Always Been Contraband is aimed towards University level readers and several essays are quite scholarly in their language and presentation, but I had no trouble understanding the points being made. I have a lot to think about and process now too.
