I Will Always Love You is a gently meandering multi-generational family saga that initially focuses on Lori's mother, Lorraine, and her escape from her religious zealot parents before Lori herself takes the central role. I found it strange and a little disappointing that the romance alluded to in the synopsis, which is what drew me to read the novel in the first place, doesn't actually happen until close to the end of the story and the events leading up to it take a long time to unfold.
