Moving Target

Moving Target is a bit of a departure from the types of novels I usually read and the first of Maggie Clare's books that I have picked out so I went into it not really knowing what to expect. This book is also the fourth in the Tactical Solutions International series, but that wasn't a problem for me as it was its own self contained thriller with Clare briefly sketching in relevant information from the previous instalments where necessary. I hazarded a pretty good guess early on at there ultimately being a happy ending for the antagonistic pair, Teagan and Maria, but I was unprepared for just how exciting - and sexy - a ride it was going to be to get them there.

I totally fell in love with Teagan myself and Maria is such a great woman to spend time with. She is tough and capable, but not at the expense of her whole personality, and has the genuine respect of her colleagues which was good to see. Perhaps there was a bit too much in the way of repeated denials in the early chapters as seemingly everyone else could tell Teagan and Maria were drawn to each other. Their repartee is fun to read and I appreciated their genuine sincerity later on too.

I was gripped by Moving Target from the first shot being fired and couldn't put the book aside for a moment which surprised me as I often find thrillers to be too implausible for my tastes. Clare pitched and paced this one so well though that I was happy to stick with it and actually devoured the whole novel in a day. Now I'm tempted to backtrack and pick up those earlier books in the series too!
