Not quite how I remembered it

I loved this Piers Anthony series as a teenager so was delighted when my sister revealed that she still had all my old paperbacks and returned them. However, either I've changed a lot or the stories haven't aged well. The basic premise is still interesting, but the writing is quite repetitive and I didn't remember it being so preachingly religious in outlook. One best fondly remembered from a twenty-year distance!
