This brilliant book is basically an encyclopedia of leftovers which doesn't just share ideas about how to use up leftover food, but also gives lots of great tips on how to store fresh foods safely to prolong their life thereby reducing food waste both before and after cooking. In this year of soaring costs of living, it is a gem of a book to possess and one which I am very happy to have been given.
I love Suzy Bowler's sense of humour which comes across well, and her practical cooking expertise enables her to devise a number of quirky solutions to pretty much every leftover food imaginable. I love Suzy Bowler's sense of humour which comes across well, and her practical cooking expertise enables her to devise a number of quirky solutions to pretty much every leftover food imaginable. I've owned my copy of Creative Ways To Use Up Leftovers for just over two years now and frequently find myself scrolling through its hundreds of entries, sometimes in search of preservation instructions or use-up ideas for a particular ingredient, other times just for inspiration because, although there are some genuine recipes, lots of Bowler's recipeless cookery ideas do particularly suit my own throw-it-in kitchen style!
As a vegan, I obviously don't need the pages dedicated to animal products, however there's still plenty of pages about individual vegetables, fruits and grains, plus the kind of cooked or baked goods which can be vegan or not, to make Creative Ways To Use Up Leftovers a valuable money-saving resource. Admittedly I received my copy as a gift, but it has recouped its retail price several times over and has outlasted more glamorous cookery books to earn its place in my kitchen.
