It's Christmas!

I declare Christmas officially started because I have read Deborah Garner's new Moonglow novella, Yuletide At Moonglow! These warmhearted stories have become an essential part of my seasonal traditions now - together with rushing to the kitchen to a bake a batch of cookies as soon as I finish each story. It's lovely also to realise I am one of a considerable number of readers who also relish these annual Timberton visits - the Moonglow global family extends far beyond Mist and Betty's hotel!

This year's story had a slightly different vibe because Timberton hosted a Yuletide festival so the story's focus wasn't entirely on the hotel. The festival reminded me of wandering London's South Bank some years ago in December with all the decorated cabins and the scent of hot cider in the air. I love how Garner manages to evoke the best of the season without being too saccharine sweet. There was a lovely mix of characters again this year with the new faces adding depth. I can't believe eighty people were fed that amazing meal without any kitchen stress though - Mist has such a serene aura! Now to find myself a Spinach Mushroom Strudel recipe so I can recreate a little Timberton magic in my own home.
