Stephanie Jane recenzis Curtain Call de C H Clepitt
A good 'slice of life' story

I've enjoyed reading several of C H Clepitt's novels and short stories over the past few years and feel that Curtain Call could be her best yet. I loved the theatrical setting and could identify with that pressurised environment from my own AmDram days!
Genuine dialogue is an important focal point in Clepitt's writing and I felt that her approach of driving both the narrative and the emotional atmosphere through conversation worked particularly well. I never found myself doubting why anyone chose their course of behaviour and was often willing Jen especially to be just a little bit braver! I liked how Clepitt wove in issues such as other people's assumptions about sexuality and made outside events more of a potential hazard to Jen and Eleanor's blossoming romance than their gender.
Curtain Call is a good 'slice of life' story with a strong sense of authenticity. I think readers who appreciated novels like Kathleen Jowitt's A Spoke In The Wheel would like this (and vice versa).
